I had my primary care provider at Fenway Health recommend this among a few other places to look at for counseling since Fenway was all booked up. I'm happy I found an excellent therapist here at Looking Glass. The intake to being put on the waitlist to choosing a therapist that worked for me went smoothly. My needs were met during my time here and I felt I didn't have to worry about all the administration aspects as they were taken care of for me in the background. What I appreciated most was my therapist sharing resources during our sessions and actually following up via email as promised with those resources. I highly recommend this place if you're seeking counseling services.

I was a new client and told me there are no openings. so they assigned me an intern but charged me full price. When I said I didn't like the intern and was about to leave, they showed me multi open slots for a single therapist. I pushed back on their requirement to come back every week, and asked for a single session and they rejected all my requests for appointments. It feels like like a pay wall and they just want to milk me for money. They also make you keep 2 credit cards on file. I'm sure the licensed therapists are great, but because i haven't gotten to see one even after paying $200. The owner is super anal. She found something petty on my intake form and used it as an excuse not to book me.

I've attended an ADHD support group through Looking Glass Counseling, which was absolutely wonderful. The group leader Rahel is knowledgeable and compassionate and a great facilitator. Highly recommended!

In the over three years I’ve been seeing my therapist at Looking Glass Counseling, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. It’s a family-run operation that really values their patient’s needs, and they really put a lot of thought into matching me with the right therapist up front. In the two times in those three years my therapist has been on a short leave, they worked just as hard to match me with another therapist in the interim, and they’ve all been a great fit. It’s been a consistent feature through several major transitions in my life and my sessions are something I look forward to every week. I don’t mind adding I also know the owners personally, if only to ensure readers this is a genuine review (I’ve told them as much to their face), but also to share the overall impression I’ve always had that they really put everything into this business, and accommodating their clients and therapists is always at the top of their mind.

I was a client at Looking Glass for a few months. There were several strange things which were (on the whole) not bad, and then some very seriously problematic things later on. Good things: - My provider was very good. They provided the care and services I needed, communicated well, and did a good job scheduling (within the confines of what they were "allowed" to do). Strange things: - My provider wasn't "allowed" to schedule more than one or two appointments out until I contacted the owner of the practice and explicitly indicated that this was negatively impacting my quality of care. - Billing. All their billing is done manually. You can't go online to any sort of portal and pay, and they push you to approve future payments before you even get EOB information from your insurance. This seemed really offputting to me, but they were happy to wait until I received my EOB's and they were happy to send me reminder emails that weren't naggy. I appreciate this, and I think it was just an oddity of a small practice. Bad things: - I received an email with _very little_ notice indicating that my provider was leaving the practice. I had one appointment left before that was to occur, and I was informed by the owner of the practice, not by my provider. It turned out that my provider and the owner of the practice had some disagreements which, from what I could tell, were due to the owner prioritizing absolutely perfect paperwork over providing good consistent care for patients. It was extremely upsetting to be told that my care would be ending in 2 weeks. In the past, when a provider was going to be leaving a practice, I've been given a few months notice or more. In this case, the practice didn't really even do anything to try to help me transition to other providers. (I transitioned to working with my provider under their newly formed practice, and I had no substantial disruption to my care as far as continuity of visits went). - Looking Glass fought tooth and nail to NOT give me my medical records. They wanted a release from the provider, despite that not being the provider's choice. They wanted a release from me to provide my records to someone who already had access to them and is a licensed provider of mental health care. They wanted everything under the sun but couldn't communicate it consistently or in a straight-forward way. --- After confirming with my provider that they were still practicing in MA, and that I could continue to be their client, I contacted Looking Glass and explicitly requested that they transfer my records over to my provider (who they obviously knew, since that provider had been working with them so recently). It took about a dozen back-and-forth emails, including me rephrasing my request in several ways, sending in a written signed letter, and very explicitly calling them out for obstructing my mental health care. In my case, this wasn't really that big of a deal because my provider was able to provide consistent care for me. That said, if I were dealing with different issues, this obstruction could be a very dangerous thing. So on the whole, I'm giving them a 2/5. They're lucky they're getting a 2. Quality of care (provider): 5/5 (this really doesn't play into the overall rating. I hope other providers here are good, but hiring a good provider and then not retaining them isn't a good quality in a business) Quality of care (parts provided by Looking Glass, not by my direct human provider): 1/5 Billing: 4/5 (Strange and offputting, but the billing person is very nice and helpful) Quality of interactions with owner: 1/5 (she communicated poorly and tried her best to obstruct me getting my own medical records) Price/Acceptance of insurance: 5/5 (they accepted my insurance, so no problem here. I think they accept others as well.)
