Alaska Behavioral Health - Adult Outpatient Clinic

I have had nothing but good to fantastic results with AK behavioral health. I go to suite 101 on 4045 Lake otis Blvd. I have nothing but great things to say about the check-in ladies that I have dealt with. They are always pleasant and easy to deal with. I absolutely love my therapist! She doesn't just tell me what I want to hear or coddle me, but actually challenges me and tries to find different ways to approach my struggles/issues. Janna is the best! I truly feel as though I've made legitimate progress by seeing her. I, at this point, couldn't even imagine having to see another therapist right now. That would set me back so far, I believe. I truly do not understand why the negative reviews on this place even exist. I have had no issues scheduling appointments. They are better than their reviews that I've been reading. Give them a try, seriously.

You guys never answer the phone…

I have been receiving care at Alaska Behavioral Health in Wasilla due to traumatic brain injuries and have had the immense privilege of working with an exemplary talk therapist, whose compassion and unwavering dedication to my treatment has been nothing short of extraordinary. However, my experience with the clinical director, **Chris Mortenson**, has been profoundly disillusioning and egregiously perturbing, with his conduct raising significant questions about his professionalism to the point where I am considering whether it may warrant a formal review of his credentials by the appropriate authorities. Despite being referred by a legal specialist who unequivocally assured me of my eligibility to apply for the mini-grant, I was unceremoniously precluded from even submitting my application. One of Mr. Mortenson’s ostensibly capricious reasons was that I had not been with the clinic for a sufficiently protracted duration, though he provided no indication of what that necessary duration would be. This baseless rationale flagrantly disregarded the fact that my legal advisor assured me this would not be an impediment, and my therapist herself had asserted that, had I submitted my application prior to the August 15th deadline, I would have stood a considerable chance of success. Furthermore, Mr. Mortenson’s second rationale was equally perplexing: the Wasilla clinic had not yet rehired a caseworker, which he claimed was necessary for the grant. However, the Anchorage office, where he also works, has a caseworker who could easily suffice, yet no effort was made to explain why this perfectly viable option was dismissed. The refusal to accommodate my needs by leveraging existing resources was both bewildering and beyond distressing. No efforts were made to support my mental health, healing, or therapies. In fact, this situation violated my trust in the entire system, causing extreme emotional distress to the point where I felt a profound urge to flee from a qualified therapist who had been invaluable to my progress. I sought treatment to be helped, not harmed, and this experience undermined the very essence of my healing journey. Moreover, I was subjected to a manifestly inequitable punishment for the transgressions of prior clients who, after receiving the grant, subsequently disengaged from therapy. To hold me culpable for the actions of others is not only patently unjust but utterly reprehensible, particularly when my record of commitment to healing is demonstrably steadfast. Rather than conduct a thorough examination of my case or acknowledge my enduring dedication, Mr. Mortenson summarily dismissed my request without the decency of engaging in a dialogue, even though **Pamela Kennedy**, the patient experience care coordinator, had reached out on my behalf to facilitate communication. This egregious dereliction of duty, coupled with an appalling lack of compassion, is diametrically opposed to the very ethos of behavioral health services. The purpose of a clinical director, particularly one in a position of influence within a community health clinic, is to facilitate healing and empower those in distress, not to stymie their progress through arbitrary, impersonal, and deeply flawed judgments. The fact that Alaska Behavioral Health’s Wasilla office holds a 1.3 rating on Google is not a reflection of the qualified caregivers—who, like my therapist and support staff such as Pamela Kennedy, are exemplary—but rather of the mismanagement and bureaucratic failures of its leadership. This entire ordeal has led me to question Mr. Mortenson’s qualifications and suitability for his role, and I believe they should be scrutinized by other professionals and potential clients. For anyone seeking help under special circumstances, I would strongly advise caution when navigating the administrative structure of ABH clinic and seek help elsewhere until Chris Mortenson is released from his position.

This business is bad all around. Never missed an appointment, yet they kept me on walk in status. The case manager they assigned me was worthless, and quit, never got a new one. Not to mention medications being not delivered on time. Medications not being filled correctly. The staff is very rude and unwelcoming. This is not to mention the hefty bill they stuck me with, even though I have Medicaid. It's been a miserable experience dealing with this agency. I have to change providers because of there negligence and failure to provide me with adequate services. I do not recommend this agency to anyone, my experience was and is a nightmare.

I love my therapist and my meds management specialist. That is why you have two stars, and I haven’t transferred services yet. I do not like the front desk at all. No one ever answers the phone and no one ever calls me back. I feel that they do not care about my well-being. I’ve been contemplating leaving Alaska Behavioral health and going somewhere else because it’s difficult for me to get a hold of front desk so that I can schedule out appointments. To save frustration, it might be better to go in person because no one answers the phone . No one answers the phones… I’ll mention it again, no one answers the phone. Try it out, you’ll see.
