I went to Alida Engel for speech therapy for 4 years in order to better manage my stutter. Alida is a wonderful therapist and I would highly recommend her to others. A lot of our work together was based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, where I learned to accept myself and the way I speak. Alida helped me to identify where a lot of my speaking anxieties and insecurities were coming from and how to overcome these anxieties so that they no longer dictate the way in which I interact with others. Somewhat ironically, this has the effect of making one’s speech more fluent, as it lessens the speaking anxiety that nearly all stutterers experience. This is in contrast to other forms of speech therapy where one simply focuses on "removing the stutter", which generally do not work in the long term (for adults). Alida also taught me many fluency techniques for managing my speech in difficult speaking scenarios. Because of my time with Alida, I have gained a sense of both peace and confidence in my speaking and my quality of life has significantly improved. As I said before, I would recommend her as a speech therapist to anyone. I should also add that Gene Burger is a wonderful receptionist and I have thoroughly enjoyed all time spent with him as well. He is kind, professional, and knows a lot about basically everything :)

I have been visiting Alida for 14 years. She has helped me very much with learning how to socialize with my peers and I still use her skills to this day. Alida is very compassionate, open minded and caring. I am very thankful for her help throughout the years.

We had a very positive experience with the Center for Speech and Learning. We were referred to Alida by our pediatrician as our 6 year old daughter was having articulation issues. Alida provided a thorough initial assessment and clearly explained her treatment approach and anticipated scope, which was very reasonable, and was met. She and her office partner, Gene, were professional and friendly, and communication was always very open and easy. Alida excelled at making the sessions enjoyable and productive for my daughter by encouraging her active participation without making her feel uncomfortable or self-conscious. My daughter really enjoyed her time with Alida, understood why she was there, and was happily self-motivated to practice on her own outside of the sessions. We were also provided with useful materials for suggested home practice. Within a fairly short period of time, clear progress was made and our time with Alida sadly ended. We highly recommend The Center for Speech and Learning.

Alida is an amazing therapist to work with and the results of her therapy exceeded my expectations. She genuinely cares about her patients and focuses on the needs and goals of the individual. Every time I was there, Gene and Alida made me feel like a part of the Center for Speech and Learning family. It was a truly enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

I am fortunate to have met Alida. She is an incredible person who cares deeply about her patients. It was great fun to work with her. The greatest thing about her approach to therapy is, she works along with her patients to make them feel at ease and helps them is every possible way to gain back their confidence and self esteem.
