Building Blocks Pediatric Therapy ABA, OT, & Speech Therapy

Our son has been coming here for a few years now and he has made so much progress with his speech and tolerating new foods. The therapists truly care about him and do a great job of making sure I understand the progress he is making. Their new location is so nice, spacious, and clean! And we also love Ms. Monique at the front desk- she always gets the biggest smile when we walk in and says hi to my son by name. We LOVE Building Blocks!

Building Blocks Pediatric Therapy has been our home away from home. My oldest has been receiving occupational and speech therapy services on and off since December of 2021. His confidence has grown significantly since his articulation and executive functioning skills have improved. My youngest started receiving speech therapy in 2022; occupational therapy in 2023; and now ABA therapy in 2024. When my son was medically diagnosed with level 3 ASD, I was stunned with grief. The staff at BBPT LITERALLY and figuratively held my hand through every step of the process from starting therapy, to working with and explaining insurance information, IEP meetings, and ABA/ST/OT. I will forever be grateful for our team members that help us through the storm. When my kiddos first started at BBPT they had separation anxiety and wouldn’t leave my side. Therefore I had the privilege of being present and welcomed at every session. Between both kids, I’ve had the unique opportunity to work with and/or observe just about every staff member at the Rochester Hills location. From the owners to the BCBAs, office staff, RBTs, OT's, to the SP's, I have a comprehensive picture of Building Blocks. Here are my 3 key takeaways: 1). The staff TRULY and DEEPLY loves the kids, the families and what they do. 2). The clinic rapport is upbeat, supportive, and collaborative. 3). They don’t expect or force your kid to fit a mold. Rather, they celebrate your child’s uniqueness and develop individualized goals alongside parents. Therefore, I would recommend BBPT to anyone looking for ST/OT/ABA to support their family!

Our experience at Building Blocks was that they are child-led, positive, and part of your team and fan club. We’ve loved them. Our son attended in-center ABA at Building Blocks 17.5 hours/week, as well as received 1-1.5 hours of speech and occupational therapies/week in center, from summer 2022-fall 2023. He was also concurrently enrolled in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) preschool in our local school district for 12 hours/week with social work and speech supports. He was nearly 4 years old when he started at Building Blocks and just turned 5 when he graduated. Our son’s demeanor has always been easy going, sweet, funny, and loving. At nearly 4, his receptive language was definitely stronger than his expressive, but he was still behind in understanding puzzles, games, holidays, and stories. He had severe childhood apraxia of speech and some body dyspraxia. Most of his delays seemed particularly tied to motor planning, with some mild sensory underresponsivity/dysregulation. When we started at Building Blocks, he had about 10 words and 20 approximations, barely scribbled, and wasn’t potty trained. At 5 years old, he is talking a bunch, can write his name, and has been potty trained about a year, and we just replaced ABA with mainstream preschool. He does mainstream preschool half day (with ECSE still for the other half). I toured 5 centers before choosing Building Blocks. As I walked out of the first center, I audibly remarked, “Not a chance in hell.” I really wasn’t happy with the other 3 either. Here’s what I loved about Building Blocks, which remained true throughout treatment: The employees were so happy to work there and with the children. They had a team approach to his treatment, including speech and OT which my son also got in center. The center was brightly colored and decorated with lots of wonderful toys and sensory equipment. Most of the layout was open behind the keypad door off the waiting room. Only a couple therapy/meeting rooms, the kitchen, and the bathroom had doors; and the couple of therapy rooms with doors had windows. They had a maximum of 12-14 kids, all of whom were toddlers like my son. They had group everyday to practice preschool routines. They sent me pictures and videos, including of goals they were working on and strategies they used. I got a verbal and written report everyday, including every sound/communication/approximation/word my child said…until that became too challenging to record! We had monthly 1-2 hour parent meetings. We had a group text thread where we all shared and gushed over everything we loved about my kiddo and every time he had a success. They never forced/required eye contact or discouraged/negatively responded to stimming at Building Blocks; I did see them help kids redirect eloping, meltdowns, and harmful stimming by offering safe alternatives. They were much more neuro-affirming than the rest of the world. My son’s smile and confidence has been my quality check, and he loved Building Blocks. You may feel weary/cautious about in-center care for your child. You may have heard that there is a concerning history for ABA and that some autistic adults speak out against it. You should do your homework. You should also consider and monitor what is best for your child and family. But our experience and services at Building Blocks were life changing in the best way. Now that we’re in mainstream preschool, I really miss the feeling of our team and fan club. I miss their neuro-affirming care. At Building Blocks, our son was always loved and praised for who he is. They saw all of his positives and strengths. They loved him for him and helped us build his abilities. I hope you can find/create such a team, and I hope this info helps empower and give hope to you. And if you choose Building Blocks, I hope it’s as positive for you.

This place is fantastic. From the owners, to the office personnel, to the core people: the technicians and therapists, everybody there is engaged into leveraging the kids' abilities to whatever ceiling they can reach. And then they break it, and create a new ceiling. They did not ask me to write this review. I'm writing it because I hope it will help other families decide to send their kids there, and the kids will benefit immensely. When we found out our son has ASD, like many other parents, we were lost and had no idea how to pick a place for his therapies (ABA, OT, Speech). We kind of stumbled on this place, which looked OK, and was close enough to home. So we gave it a try. Boy, were we lucky... Yes, every story will be different, and every kid will progress at their pace (to a degree). But no question in my mind that the nice gang at Building Blocks changed my son's life forever - and in turn, ours as well. We are forever grateful. We recently moved to another state. I can say one of the things we miss the most from Michigan is this place. They are that good.

I don't often post reviews, but Building Blocks more than deserves this. They're doing incredible work. The help and direction we received at Building Blocks was beyond my expectations and made such a positive impact on my daughter, and entire family's life. I cannot thank Chelsea enough. My daughter has many sensory processing differences that became immensely worse when our routines were flipped upside down due to the pandemic. Her tactile defensiveness prevented her from living a happy life and greatly affected my entire family. From the moment I called to schedule an evaluation, I felt welcomed, heard, and like I wasn't alone. Chelsea was 100% invested in my daughter and wanted to see her succeed, and I could absolutely tell. It was tough, with ups and downs, and my husband and I had to put in a lot of work outside of the sessions. But having Building Blocks help us through was so appreciated.
