This program works. I probably wouldn't be here if not for DBT and Dr. Elting.
There is a reason they have a long waiting list. It saved my life.
I was professionally advised to file a complaint against the therapist that I saw here but rather warn others to stay away. I'm a cool, professional career gal that wouldn't be caught dead seeing a psychologist but was dealing with a deep depression including dealing with taking care of my dad w a blood cancer which meant many days, weeks and months in the hospital. The emotional toll that came w being a caregiver made me lose touch with all of my friends & extended family, many people thought cancer was contagious and stayed away from me which broke my heart. I relied on my therapist for full support and looked forward to seeing her every week as she was my only support. I tried to get help here only to be hurt mentally, emotionally and financially. A proper mental health business is supposed to treat every individual with utmost respect, "do no harm," use proper billing, return phone calls, be supportive and if terminating someone, provide "in person" termination & transfer care which did not happen. My Therapist of two & a half years that I saw weekly here abandoned me as a patient via text message (never showed to my appt one day) and never spoke to me again. I had no warning that this would happen. Who abandons a patient via text msg? There was no in–person termination and no transfer of care to another doctor. I had no last session to discuss why this was happening. I was left with no support. All of my inquiries for a referral for someone accepting new patients were ignored. I was later sent a certified mail that the reason for my termination was that I only completed 55% of the therapist's goals in the past 18 weeks. Wait, what? I had been a loyal, friendly client making progress for over 2 years and I was being judged on the last 18 weeks? This was never talked about previously that this would be a reason to be terminated and via text message? I had no opportunity to discuss this letter, why couldn’t I have been told this in person? Any amount of goal completion in therapy should be a success not a failure. Had, I not been caregiving for a loved one stricken with an incurable cancer, I could have made 100% of the goals, therapy should not make you feel like a failure when you are already feeling lonely and beaten up, it should be a place of support. Along with the unprofessional termination, were multiple billing errors, five hundred dollars of over charge copayments (that HMSA assisted me with), and confidentiality breaches (I was told way too much about patients I met here as well as others I didn’t know) and my therapist would spend a lot of my time telling me about his/her problems. I had been nothing but a respectful, friendly, cooperative patient who showed up and never missed an appointment or payment. Being abandoned out of the blue and by text msg by a psychologist was definitely one of the most hurtful experiences of my life. It left me with more tears I thought were possible, nightmares and eating/sleeping problems. All of which I did not need at the same time caring for my dad. You never expect a professional that you trusted with all your heart to turn their backs on you. None of this made any sense, except deeply hurt me.
