direction is awful. the group therapy does nothing. all you do is sit there and listen to people talk about their terrible lives while the staff yap on about random unhelpful ‘guidelines’ and how they had it worse when they were kids. the ‘unstructured time’ is the worst of everything. this time took up most of the day and it was so so so awful. the staff aren’t even paying attention, they’re just doing puzzles and talking. the patients aren’t being supervised so they talk about awful things, such as suicide attempts. someone there explained a method to me, and then just went “oh but don’t do it tho”. i ignored them, i didn’t use their method in any way, but it’s so bad that the staff isn’t even paying attention to the patients talking about this stuff. i was also 11 at the time, direction thought that i was ‘mature’ enough to be in the teen PHP so i was surrounded by 16-20 year olds (as an 11 yr old). i could go on and on about how useless and unhelpful their ‘guidelines’ are. they are literally brainwashing everyone into believing that if you follow the guidelines your depression will magically go away. they also say you don’t need coping skills, you just need to find the root of the problem? which makes no sense, because you obviously can’t find the root of the problem in a few days, and as someone who struggles/struggled with self harm i wouldn’t be clean if i didn’t have coping skills. anyways, a week and a half in they sent me to the hospital. it was insanely traumatic, and a week in another patient from direction came into the same inpatient unit that i was in. says a lot about how unhelpful they are. they then refused to take me back after i got out of the hospital. direction was the first PHP that i’ve ever been to. since then i’ve been to 3 hospitals (inpatient) and 2 other PHP’s. i have to say, obviously the hospitals were the worst because of how traumatic they are, but direction is by far the worst PHP that i’ve been to. not to mention that half of the “group therapists” aren’t even licensed. this did absolutely nothing for me, and i regret ever going here. if you’re thinking about either going here or bringing your child here, make the right decision and don’t.

Don't go here some girl gave me razor blades when I was manic and she was handing them out. The program doesnt do anything for u but do group therapy and talk about ur problems it does nothing they say they do

The services received from Direction were great, but dealing with their billing practices have been a nightmare. Bill was paid in full via their 3rd party billing provider, but I was subsequently billed for the same dates and amount the next month. After multiple calls and hours and providing them with proof of payment through their own billing system, I finally spoke to someone that mentioned a supervisor (which I could not speak to directly no matter how many times I called) was able to remove the double billing. A week later the invalid charge is still showing on the portal... Definitely a very stressful situation.
Direction was there for me as a teenager, up into the start of my 20's. I'm very fond of them and still keep in contact. I really feel strongly that if it wasn't for the help I got from them, I would lack a lot of skills I need for dealing with the world around me. The clinicians really care and take the time to make sure things are done in a way that benefits the client... and t he doctor on staff is absolutely amazing. I don't always feel like patients come first at some places, with Direction I always felt like my needs were the priority and came before any other issue.
Our experience at Direction gave us the gift of maintaining a relationship with our daughter, one that is now healthy and flourishing. The additional twice weekly counseling they provide for parents and caregivers is a huge part of our success as a family. The concepts they have established - Wholeistic Education (WED) - and that they encourage you to implement in your home are simple but the work is hard. It has taken a few years, and has definitely been worth our time and effort.
