Absolutely love this place. Started going to this clinic after an awful school teacher shattered our child’s confidence and trust in adults, especially those in positions where they are supposed to protect kids. I’m happy to say after almost a year that most of that lost confidence has been recovered, and our kiddo has found their voice again. I have done counseling since I was a teenager and in all different settings. I’ve seen a vast variety of techniques and approaches as a youth and as an adult. The typical mental health counseling environment is going to position you in a room where you are then expected to start talking as soon as you sit down. “You will not find that type of pressure here.” I think when it comes to kids, the first step is building a foundation of trust before they willingly start talking about things. But because of this approach even before they are ready to talk utilizing Play allows the trained therapist here to learn a lot just from how they play and what they use to play with. I think that this office does a very good job of making children feel like they are in control of there session and that the environment is something that they can relax in, more like it would be if they were at home. They also offered EMDR which I myself have found to be very useful and effective and was happy it was offered to our kiddo. And when things have come up their tele-health option has been wonderful when we have to stay at home. I would recommend anyone seeking Counseling from this office to first research the scientific evidence on processing with Play and how it is used clinically to help children and adults. You can’t go in there expecting it to be like a traditional as seen on TV counseling session. This all about play and allowing the mind to process naturally, kiddos have hundreds upon hundreds of toys to choose from and a variety offered activities. We also appreciated that they have very kind staff members, the environment always has good energy. Do the research and if it’s right for you highly recommend this approach and this office.
Our son “received” therapy there for a while. We as parents were not involved in anything. They would talk to us in passing as we were leaving. However, they loved billing every session as parent involved for an additional charge ($150+ per session). When we called them out on this they claimed we as parents were involved in every session. When we asked how that was possible when we only had the hi and by before and after our son was in a session they claimed we didn’t understand. Long story short, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It was deceitful (and in my personal opinion unethical billing practices). There was never a conversation regarding things we as parents can do to help our son. Just thanks for sitting in the waiting room so we can charge $400+ per session ($180 for our son and over $200 for parental involvement). They also failed to ask for co-pays at every session and sent us a bill for $1000 after after nearly 8 months (after insurance paid). When confronted with the billing issues and the lack of front office doing their job they waived the bill and denied doing anything wrong. When asked how they could bill for parents waiting in the waiting room and getting no involvement they insisted they involved parents in the session/s. I promise the most involved I was was hi and bi! Worse yet they never gave us insight on how to help our son even after being asked. DO NOT GO HERE!
Impossible to communicate with and doesn't provide professional care. Glorified babysitting is all it is. Don't waste your time.
Amazing therapists! Non judgmental atmosphere
Never had any issues with this provider the only reason why we are no longer with empowered through play is because my daughter's counselor went to a better opportunity for her. Thank you for time we spent together. The receptionist Stacy is a true kind soul. Thank you.
Everyone that works here has been so wonderful to deal with. They take the time to get to know your kiddo and to get to the root cause of their struggles. I highly recommend Empowered Through Play.
I took my son here for trauma help because I had heard so many parents sing their praises. Makes me hope we just got the weak link of the therapists. We went for 3 months with absolutely no comments, insights or updates from the therapist. 2 months in, i had to walk in on my son’s session and corner his therapist to get her to answer “how can I help him not get suddenly angry and hit others multiple times a day.“ The response… “that’s a normal behavior for his age.” I asked and asked for feedback. No progress after 3 months. Our situation was steadily worsening with our son, so we are stopping the glorified play dates and are taking our trauma elsewhere to be helped, not played with.
