This families helping families is not giving a lot information for families like me information to help as in services that can help families I also feel when I do call no one never call back to answer questions I might have
6 years ago I found FHFofGBR an excellent go to resource for myself as my son and I were going through the process of being evaluated for Autism. I have donated to the charity for several years and recommended to many other families. In 2021, I noticed a MAJOR change in the overall quality, helpfulness, friendliness and timeliness for the staff to decide if they possibly want to help you. First impressions are everything in a business and this is a unique business for families who are at a loss. Mary, the receptionist, makes me feel I am bothering her every time I call…even when I asked to volunteer! She is curt and harsh and has no idea how to speak to someone, especially someone like me who is neurodivergent! She has hung up on me because it’s possible she is thinking this is a power play move on my part to not answer a question immediately she is asking, but my brain does not function this way! Also, I have requested several resources related to Autism and was promised to be emailed them and they never arrived until after a survey I completed. I received a lame answer saying sorry I sent it to the wrong email, well that is okay, however when I asked you for local counselors with an Autism/ADHD background or training…I was instead sent a list of Grief Counselors! This was 4 months later after my initial contact also! They also still reference Autism Speaks from 2010 on their website…and as an autistic adult please DO NOT support those people because they are against Autistic individuals! This is ONLY related to Family Helping Families of Baton Rouge!
