I think they're shady. One of the counselors tried to ask me for income information for her files. I told her I don't care about her files. She threatened to not make rent payments that the VA approved to harass me as a veteran's wife. Megan's behavior was nasty and abusive.
You go in hopes of finding the resources listed on their website since it’s your only hope and are told “once you start coming every day and we get to know you, then we’ll help”. I’m not looking to “get to know” anyone; I’m looking for help. I went in hopes of case management, employment services, and to discuss a work-bed program - all of which they mention on their website - so I could just call somewhere home again and they literally brushed me off. As far as they’re concerned, we could all just die out here because they “haven’t gotten to know us” It’s not a broken system. It’s people like them who simply don’t care and don’t want to help that have broken it. Of course, they’ll never be held accountable since they’re all so privileged. I’m literally going to the media. Don’t offer services online then change course when someone shows up actually needing them.
Good place. Friendly staff. Very welcoming to all. Liza at the Welcome Center is awesome 👍
Used to be a really great program...now they dont care about the clients at all... used to get monthly cleaning supplies, back to school stuff, Thanksgiving and Christmas help and emergency assistance... now all they do is call and make sure you paid your rent and give you terrible advice... the caseworkers know nothing about the local resources or how to help you... and the supervisors take the recouses for themself and decide to blame and act like they dont know what's going on.... I was told to leave my home paid for by the government and go into a shelter....something that would get my voucher taken from me.... DO NOT TRUST THEM!.... they aren't the same as they used to be
I am a disabled veteran, a mother of five, and a former client of the SSVF program overseen by Friendship Place. I am being forced to go public because this organization funded by the federal government has placed my family in active crisis and compound harm and has been enabled by Regional SSVF Veterans Affairs coordinators not to act. Since February 2025 I have been in litigation with Friendship Place. It is now July. During this time, they have gone completely silent while I face: • Eviction proceedings (hearing scheduled for July 22), Over $17,000 in rent arrears, Imminent repossession of my vehicle, A public auction of my storage unit on July 23, which contains medical, legal, and sacred property, Mental health decline, medical disruption, and continued loss of care Instead of providing help, Friendship Place used my husband’s and my 100% permanent and total disability compensation as justification to disqualify us from services from extended rental assistance as an accommodation. They in partnership with DC Housing Authority retaliated against me and my family by constructively denying and/or terminating services because I questioned them on their requests. They ignored federally protected ADA accommodations and relied solely on internal policy, not federal law. They screened us, exploited our benefits, then abandoned us. They lied in court records. Allowed their attorneys to publicly misrepresent me and use unrelated court cases to paint me as undeserving unreliable and a liar. Their leadership lied in court, didn’t tell the whole story and acted as a shield for the Veterans First Program. He acted like I didn’t ask for reasonable accommodations by law. He admitted he never asked Veterans Affairs if they could help me further. Veterans Affairs says they are an Independent entity but they say VA will take their grant if they don’t follow strict rules. Well they are still running the program even though they buried my family. insurance company PHLY has been made aware. They don’t care. A DC Superior Judge ruled in their favor, writing that if they helped me, they couldn’t help other veterans an absurd and discriminatory justification for abandoning a family in crisis. Friendship Place repeatedly told me to seek “other resources.” What other resources exist when an SSVF provider receives over $7.5 million in federal funding specifically to help veterans in crisis like mine? I begged them. I told them we were in danger. I asked for help. I made it clear. They refused. At one point, Veterans Affairs itself had to step in and instruct them to assist me because I kept saying the program was being run unlawfully. They still retaliated. I was assaulted in the military. I live with chronic trauma. Instead of support, I was publicly humiliated. My trauma and disability were buried beneath paperwork and policy. I will never forget what Friendship Place and its staff and attorneys allowed to happen to me and my family. This organization needs oversight. This program is harming people. And if they did it to me they are doing it to others. I will not rest until the truth is told and justice is done for every veteran whose life has been destroyed by SSVF program misconduct. I reported their Veterans First leadership in a grievance due to her dismissive racist behavior back in November of 2025. In court documents there were emails uploaded that showed she and a Veterans Affairs employee illegally removed me from SSVF services. There was no conversation about how to help my family or offer extended rental assistance as a reasonable accommodation by law. She was more worried about a screening than my actual life. They continue to promote themselves as a philanthropic organization while my family is suffering exponentially. I will continue to fight for my families in court. What these people have done to my family is unconscionable. They smile while I beg courts to listen to me. They smile while my husbands health slowly deteriorates. They dehumanized me and treated me as subhuman. And they are getting away with it.
This place took me through the wringer for almost a week. I was looking for rental assistance via the VA. They went as far as requesting my brother’s information (caregiver). Before denying me and using the excuse of not having his relevant information. Tread carefully as they are looking for a reason to say “no”!
I use to live in Washington DC Friendship Place to meet them there. I live in St Louis city, Missouri state place to live in Ackert Park nursing housing place to live safe home. Sooner I will leave it st Louis nurse house to go back to Washington DC to meet Friendship Place will come to visiting them. Hopefully will help me back to place to live there. Thank you for your time... By Mitchell Dianopolis
I went there to get referrals and to see the Doctor they listed that are available specific days and when I got there it was different and it didn't seem the help that the website displayed was there as listed online. So make sure you CALL THOSE PPL B4 TRAVELEING ALL THE WAY UP NW cause it's not what it's cracked up to be for the homeless....they do offer the laundry, mail service, and hot meals...if that's what u need go there but psychiatric stuff go to the doc office 35k for emergency mental health services. Go to Virginia williams if u need placement in a shelter.
Zach and Erin are freakin awesome. I was an emergency intake and they moved quickly with my case, thankful that I'll be getting the assistance that I need to avoid homelessness! Awesome organization, when my pockets are right, I'll definitely be donating to them! Great place for vets having hardships! Thank God for Friendship Place!😁
