Kennedy Krieger Institute

We have been with Kennedy Krieger for the past year and it's like pulling teeth to get an answers any clear straight answers my child has hyper sensitive sensory issues and all they can say is everything that he has is caused by diabetes. My child has had hypersensitive sensory issues since 5 years old my child was diagnosed with diabetes at 13 I'm not sure how the diabetes caused my child's sensory issues before he was even diagnosed with diabetes. We've been waiting four and a half months for a sleep study for my child they waited to the day of the appointment to call and cancel the appointment because they overbooked their patients 4 and 1/2 months they couldn't take the time to look last week or a month prior or two months prior to make sure everything was in the right position and that they didn't overbook no that's right they wait till the day of the appointment called to cancel, I can clearly say incompetence! They don't even have the audacity to call my phone as the child's parent to let me know they call my child's phone to let my child know the appointment was canceled. It's like a three-ring circus and all the clowns are on the opposite side supposedly to help your child. I called the office to find out exactly why they canceled the appointment and why they waited to the day of the appointment to cancel I try to speak with Marina or Lori that oversees the department for the sleep study but of course neither one of those people were available and of course there's no return phone calls.

I have had nothing but good experiences at Kennedy Krieger in the past but this location is the worst when it comes to compassion and just humanity. At least the staff my child saw today. I honestly felt today was only a money grab because my concerns were not addressed. I thought coming to Kennedy Krieger parents and doctors are a team. I didn’t feel that at all. The doctor kept interrupting me and talking over me when I spoke. My child was seen by the sleep department and their solution was as long as he’s not self harming himself at 2am in the morning he can stay awake. No SOLUTIONS at all!! I never thought I would say coming here was a waste of time but it certainly was today.

The staff are superb, very informative and professional. Tina is exceptional at answering any questions and very patient. Dr. Abbott has been a gift to your family by giving us tools to empower our child and us. He has gain a greater understanding of himself and awareness. We appreciate the skills we are gaining here. Thank you !!!

We've had great experience KKI in Columbia and Baltimore. Yes wait times for initial treatment was long due to waiting list. Both of my children received evaluations and on going out patient care they need(ed) and us Parents got the answers to every question we had since they were born that nobody else took the time or had the experience in doing. They Have had OT, Speech and feeding therapy as well as appointments with development pediatricians who are amazing. We have had zero problems this far with them and we are on our second year. I highly recommend KKI and am grateful they exist. Life changing for our children and us.

I took my daughter to the Columbia location for an ADHD evaluation. After waiting months for the appointment, we finally took her in in January. The appointment went well. They requested her teachers fill out some forms and after they received them back, they would contact us for another appointment. Several months later they call us to schedule the next appointment which wasn’t until June. About 2 weeks ago we received a letter saying that appointment was canceled because it wasn’t needed (their words, not mine). I called to see what was up. They said the doctor referred us to another department. They had no idea why and no idea why that department would cancel the appointment. They said they would have the doctor contact me. We have heard nothing! We are in limbo with no official diagnosis or anything stating otherwise. No follow appointments. No recommendations of what to do next. NOTHING! So now my insurance will be billed for this evaluation that gave us NO answers and will likely not cover testing to be done elsewhere. Thanks Kennedy Krieger for wasting my time and abusing my benefits!
