We live in the Chicago area and my "Special Needs", behaviorally challenged son was transported there from Evanston Hospital in Illinois. My husband and I were very concerned so we took the 3hr drive to visit the facility and see how my son was doing. We were very pleased to see how nice the facility was. We were shown around and we were allowed to check in and talk to our son. As we were visiting I was noticing every detail I could take in. The nursing staff were very nice and accomodating. Also, we met with a Social Worker who answered all of our questions and concerns. The large room which looked like an activity room was surrounded by huge windows, which gave alot of light and openness. Our son Eri expressed how nice the bed was and also that he liked the food there( except they didn't serve spaghetti.) The best part for him was that he told me he met two friends! I was so excited because he has never had friends. I think the two friends were Joe, the tech, and Tony, the nurse. They were so good to him. These two guys went above and beyond in caring for Eri. As a matter of fact, the whole way home in the car all he did was talk about JOE and TONY. The entire experience at the hospital was very positive. The only negative was that sometimes it was very difficult to get through to the unit by phone. If you have someone that needs special care, it would be very worthwhile for you to look into this facility! We were more than pleased! Respectfully Yours, Judy Foster

My husband was admitted to this facility. He was discharged Monday and it's Tuesday, still no call to pharmacist. He's been taking medication for 2 weeks and now has none! I don't know what they are doing, but this is not professional. Also, when he came home his legs were twice the size.

August of 2025 I ended up in inpatient care at this physicality. The staff there were caring and did their best, however at the time they were not offering therapy for people in inpatient care and that did... for lack of better words, suck a bit. Upon leaving they asked me if something along the lines of "If there's anything we could improve what would it be?" and I said seeing a therapist would be splendid, and like an angel from the sky, Amy emerged and offered me a spot in MBH IOP program and I've been doing better since. I'm more confident and my personality hasn't changed, but rather blossomed for the better. She is by far the best therapist I've ever had and the other staff there are so kind and do what they can to help as much as possible. Plus some of the food was DELICIOUS. Thank you to everybody there.

This place is pure hell. They gave me meds and said I didn't need to know what they are. They told me my husband signed me over to be a ward of the state. They told me my psychiatrist is no longer my doctor. They stopped all my meds and put me only on prozac and a schizophrenic should never take Prozac. They took my glucose I'm diabetic the meter said 44 they wrote down 216. I had to do forced labor in the first ward I was put in and there was a gangbanger in there threatened my life so I got out in a calmer ward. They made me think I'd never talk to my friends or family again. I said I'll just hang myself in the shower and the nurse said go ahead I'd like to see you try. When I got to that second ward I lost phone privileges cause I had a nurse write down the number to that ward. I started to tell the CEO about these issues & she put her hand right in my face, said "I don't want to hear it" and stormed off. They wouldn't let me have my teeth or glasses or shoes. I had a seizure in the time out room when I came to a nurse was standing over me and said "stop the drama". The doctor and the psychiatrist come early and if you ain't awake they won't see you. A friend was getting a swollen throat and elderly lady and she was told she has to wait to see the doctor the next day to get a Rx for a cough drop. She developed a bad sore throat in the mean time. The food is all processed.. the strawberry yogurt was made with artificial strawberries and in the first ward my lunch had a roach in it. They took a guys fake leg away from him and gave him a shitty wheel chair.

I am extremely upset right now! This place is ridiculous! My best friend (who has no one in this world but me) is in there. I’ve been laughed at when I call because I tell them I am her friend. I’ve known this woman for over 20 years and know her better than anyone. We took her to the hospital for her voices where she was treated ok at first, but after they took her to this place they were not allowed to tell me anything even though I am her emergency contact. After she called and told me where she was thought “good she’s going to get some help” just to find out they were only giving her medication and put an ankle monitor on her as if she was a criminal and didn’t sign herself in 😭 she told them what the voices were telling her, not what she was wanting to do. She didn’t get any counseling and her voices got worse because everyone in there was fighting and nothing was being done about it. I’d b on the phone w her and every single time there was a fight so loud I could hear everything! Someone even attacked the doctor and went to jail! That’s not going to help her. It’s only making things worse. Now, she’s locked in and can’t even leave on her own accord!! She needs out of there where I can take her to a real doctor, a real therapist and get her the help she needs. We thought we were doing the right thing by taking her in and now I regret that decision. She’s a wonderful woman that deserves a chance, NOT to b locked up like she’s in trouble 😞 She has a stable home to come to and people who love her. Shes wanted and she has a purpose in life! Let her go!!! Apparently they send unwell patients home and keep the ones they should let go according to these reviews.

So very disappointed!!. Franciscan of Michigan City told us Medical Behavior specialized in Dementia, they do not. We were told a very short stay 2-3 days became 36 days. On day 8 I started calling the social worker stating I needed the paperwork sent to transfer my husband to LaPorte, finally day 27 the paperwork was sent. I have no idea why he was kept there so long. I was told he couldn't leave until he gets well, he has Dementia, he isn't going to get well. He couldn't leave because he was still confused, he has Dementia, he is going to be confused. No one, no one returns phone calls in that place. Shame on Franciscan for not being trueful with us and Shame on Medical Behavior for keeping him 36 days.
