Mental Connections of SW LLC

I first went to mental connections in 2023. My first initial visit was uncomfortable with Dr. Cain but I just chopped it up to being a new place and new people to share my most personal and intimate experiences with. Needless to say I didn’t go back until about a month ago. My first interaction with the front desk staff was awkward and demeaning she was very rude on the phone, I screenshot the text conversation and I will try to post them for your convenience. After politely telling her that I would prefer to report this interaction she tried to gaslight me by telling me I took the conversation wrong she was not referring me elsewhere and that I could just fill out the paperwork when I got in office or my appointment. Once I arrived to the appointment the other front desk staff handed me the paperwork to fill out a question on the form asked about “ethical background “ I then asked if it was supposed to say “ethnic background”? As that would have been more in line with what the questionnaire consisted of. She snapped at me and said, “I wrote these I know what they’re supposed to say” I replied, “but ethnic and ethic are two different things” she started to huff and puff and insinuated that I was stupid when in actuality even Dr. Cain confirmed she made a mistake. Fast forward to today, I had another appointment with Dr. Cain as he is my psychiatrist and instead of monitoring me on the medication my pcp prescribed (because I am making progress) he terminated me as a patient. I thought these doctors helped you understand your disease I thought they talked with you and observed you to make necessary changes and diagnosis. Instead he became frustrated and cold making it seem like I was a problem and a waste of his time. I thought I was doing the right thing by seeking out a professional but in the end I felt humiliated by him and his staff. Please seek out other options no one should leave the doctor feeling this way.

Lauren has no clue on the risk the medication she prescribes to these children. She prescribed my child medication knowing he couldn’t swallow it and informed me to give it to him by breaking the pill and putting it in juice after almost a year on this medication she read in a book the severity of the harm it could cause a person burning his esophagus where she immediately took him off of it. The following day my son had a seizure due to being taken off this medication. Also if you schedule your child’s appointment at 9am Lauren will be a no show to that appointment as well as she attempts cancel my appointments everytime! Terrible experience Rita is very rude. I wouldn’t trust this place with anything.

I’ve been to a few different doctors offices seeking just to be understood, and to go over possible solutions, I had honestly lost faith in finding the resources I needed ..that is UNTIL I found Dr.Cain Schexneider! I felt like he really listened and made me feel comfortable , not like I was being held under a microscope to be evaluated! The office staff has been more than nice and have gone the extra mile in the past to reach out to me. I am forever grateful:) thank y’all so much for everything y’all do!

Really like Dr. Cain.. very personable.

Cain Schexneider, APRN, has been my psychiatric nurse practitioner for five years- I first met him at another facility and he and the staff are amazing. Cain cares about his patients If you call or text the office, a return call or text is given within 24 hours. I’ve seen two ex-psych practitioners in Lake Charles who ignored me and thought they “knew it all”: both women didn’t listen to me- I was on a prescribed stimulant for a long time for ADHD: there were serious side effects from it and he prescribed me a non-stimulant. I thank God for Cain for recognizing there was a problem and for listening to my concerns. He is experienced in the practice of psychiatry. I thank God for him and Rita and Paisley I have recommended six or seven people to Mental Connections- Thank you all for what you do for me, other patients and families here in Lake Charles- Camille R

I've seen a couple of diff Drs before, they all treated me like I didn't know my own body or problems. Then I was sent to Dr Cain and it's made an amazing difference in my life. If I can't get threw on the phone I can text and someone always gets back to me. Him and his whole staff are amazing and I refer everyone to them.
