As a marriage and family therapist in Keene for many years, I have had the opportunity to know Allison Carey since she was in graduate school. I was happy when she first established her private practice across the hall from me. She was my first go-to person for referrals and consultation. We were in several consultation groups together where I experienced first-hand her therapeutic skills and professionalism and business acumen. This was particularly evident when she moved out of my building to another office where she could expand her practice by adding staff, something that I was never inclined to do to complicate my life! I have been impressed with her ability to manage the business end of her practice with several staff members and all that entails, along with being the consummate marriage and family therapist with her own clients. Mindful Balance is not just a name for Allison. She lives it. I highly recommend Allison Carey and her staff as caring, mindful therapists.

I have been connected with Mindful Balance since 2016 when it was just the owner and one other therapist, and I watched this organization grow to having several therapists. I want to comment on a few things and address some of the points in the negative reviews. First, having worked directly with the owner for over three years I saw how important it is to her that Mindful Balance clients get great care. The reason this practice grew from one therapist to I think seven or eight was because of the demand for their high quality services. In the beginning Allison, the owner, was putting people on a waitlist until she could hire more therapists, because the organization was growing so fast and the demand for services high. This challenge isn't unique to Mindful Balance. Statewide there is a higher demand for counseling services than there are therapists available to see clients. What is unique about Mindful Balance is the company culture. Therapists that come to work there are encouraged to include their other skills and interest in the healing arts in their practice in addition to the areas in which they specialize. I also know Allison is very mindful of making sure therapists do a good job and has been very diligent when hiring and working with the therapists. Still, as with any job, just as with any therapist and client, it is not always a good fit. Or therapists leave a practice to start their own businesses. It's unfortunate when someone feels they had a negative experience. Please don't write this company off based on one or two negative reviews. If you feel you had a bad experience reach out to the owner to discuss this and see what you can come up with together to work it out. From what I know of her she would want to know about these things and would want to work with you on a solution. She is a completely benevolent person and extraordinarily ethical. I have referred many people to this company and will continue to do so.
