Open Door

The world truly needs all kinds of minds—and Open Door genuinely lives that belief. Their mission to focus on capability over disability, and person over diagnosis, isn’t just a slogan; it’s something they embody every single day. Open Door has been nothing short of incredible with my teenage son, who bravely occupies his own space on the autism spectrum, bringing strengths that are often overlooked while still needing guidance and support. He is in that weird in-between stage—too old to be a kid, not quite ready for adulthood, wanting more independence but also completely overwhelmed and unsure where to start. Despite working with the neurodivergent population myself (and usually knowing exactly what to say), when it comes to my own child, those what-to-do conversations often ended in frustration (me) and eye rolls (teen). Enter David. Somehow, he speaks my son’s language in ways I can’t. He meets him exactly where he is, challenges his thinking, and—respectfully, in bro code—calls him on his BS when needed. And my son actually listens. That alone feels like magic. And shoutout to Jeff (yayyy Jeff!), his job coach, who is equally amazing. He works hands-on with my son each week and has built a connection that’s supportive, encouraging, and empowering. I’m deeply grateful for Open Door, for David and his team, and for the fact that they’ve brought this service to our community. What they do doesn’t feel like “just a job”—it’s clearly a calling. A passion. And it’s making a real, true difference in our lives. Highly recommend.

I want to give a shout-out to David at Open Door. My child and I went for a consult with David to see if Open Door’s programming was an ideal fit at this time. Even though my child is not quite there yet with utilizing Open Door’s program, David still took the time to point me in the right direction with some other resources that can assist my child at this present time. He still took the time to talk with us for over an hour, of which I was so appreciative! The fact that he provided us with some resources that could help my child in the meantime spoke volumes. I could tell that David cared. He even emailed a time or two after my child and I met with him to follow up. I recommend David highly and thank him for taking the time to care.

Open Door has truly changed my life for the better. Not only was I able to improve skills in my desired career field, my soft skills were greatly enhanced. I am now more confident and resilient than ever which has greatly helped me in problem solving and will so for the foreseeable future. My creative thinking was also enhanced. I never once thought anywhere could positively impact my life until I found Open Door. Thank you very much to Jeff and Dave for all you did! I wish I could give you all beyond 5/5 stars. My only regret is not finding Open Door sooner. All the best to you all and Open Door!

My son has advanced very well in his internship like experience at a local software company. In 0ne year, under David's and Jeff's direct hands on tutelage, his social skills, self confidence, self awareness and work ethic has increased exponentially. We are expecting him to progress seamlessly to the job market upon completion of his BS in computer science (July 2025) much faster and more easily fit into an office team environment. Thanks, David and Jeff!

Open doors has been such a blessing to our family, and especially our 20 year old Autistic son. He has been doing social classes through facilitated dnd, and job coaching with open doors for a while, the job coaching gave him the confidence to navigate a work place, with an advocate on his side, as well and giving us an inside look at Daniel’s performance, abilities, and struggles so we could help assist in working on areas of weakness and encourage areas of strengths. Our son was able to be hired on part time through the job coaching and is one step closer toward independence. This program is costly, but I see it as an investment in my son’s future and worth every penny. Open Doors is able to be more personal and intentional with their clients and tailor their services to each person which the free government programs cannot do. I highly recommend Open Doors.

Open Door has been a wonderful experience for our son. As an adult with high functioning autism, he needed a safe experience to test the waters of the professional world. From the thoughtful intake experience, placement in his field of interest (computer science), and the support and feedback of his coach, he gained over three months of experience which has informed his college and career path. Can't say enough about the professional and caring people and mission of Open Door.

Open Door has been a Blessing to my son and me. Open Door has provided job coaching at two different employers and both were great learning experiences and enhancement of job skills. I would highly recommend Open Door! David and Jeff have been great to work with!
