As a young adult on the autism spectrum, I found Dr. Rex lacks a real understanding of how to work with people on the spectrum. I found his methods ableist and condescending. I honestly felt like he was making a lot of incorrect assumptions about me instead of listening to me. Once I even brought this up to him and he just waved it away, saying, "Well, I work with a lot of young people on the spectrum." Just because you know one person on the spectrum, doesn't mean you have a full understanding of every autistic person's experience. One time I got emotionally flooded and Dr. Rex's response only ended up escalating the situation. In our next session Dr. Rex shamed me for my behavior rather than brainstorming better ways to deal with flooding.
