My father inlaw, a Vietnam Vet, was admitted for pneumonia and sepsis a week ago. He asked for a shower numerous times and it never happened. He was a fall risk and needed help to go to the bathroom and he fell and hit his head when nobody showed up. There were no proper discharge instructions as they did not tell him where to pick up his extra 11 meds he was subscribed. There were so many different Healthcare providers "traveling nurses and Doctors" that were not on the same page. Is this the new normal on how our elderly war heros are treated now?? Or anyone for that matter? Shame on you ORHC!!
My dad was being seen at the MercyOne Iowa Heart Center on December 26th, they said when he walked in he was sweaty, confused and couldnt get a pulse they called the ambulance, they couldnt get a pulse than drove him around the corner to take him into the ER, they still couldnt get a pulse and did CPR and pronounced him dead at 9:35am. They called me an hour later to tell me he died an hour later!!... they told me they think I repeat THINK he died from a clot to his heart.... I was waiting for my brother to show up and the nurses kept coming in and asking what's going on, it felt like they were rushing to get him out of there and I dont know why when they were just going to charge for the ambulance ride and him being "seen" there.. My dad always told me and everyone if he ever went to ottumwa they would kill him and now hes dead. I honestly believe they could of done more but they didnt. They dont care they just want money.. I get things happen but really come on. The doctor who talked me didnt say we did everything we could or we tried our best. I blame them for his death I really do. I wouldn't recommend ever going to this hospital. They literally have a cemetery right across the street wonder why....
While my mother was hospitalized, Dr. Khan was very compassionate and helpful in working through her transition into hospice care.
Got great care in one day surgery. When got to a room, nurses are understaffed and overworked. Departments do not communicate well. Dietary made mistakes. Patients need to have an advocate.
