Angels work here. If you are heartbroken from watching your brave child struggle, and are exhausted, frustrated, feeling discarded by tragically flawed systems that have previously failed your child, and are losing hope, please take heart. Our child came here with severe developmental delays which prevented him from being able to participate in most activities outside of the home. In two years, he graduated after having met age appropriate developmental milestones, even surpassing in some areas. Two years ago, I could not imagine this life for him. Today, he is reading, and about to surpass his peers in math skills. He carries on full conversations, and is able to articulate his thoughts. More importantly, he is comfortable in his body, and his mind is very peaceful. He has confidence. His sensory challenges are so much less severe than they used to be. He is JOYFUL. I know that some people are hesitant to try ABA therapy. I was one of them. Please rest assured that these people are not trying to make your child appear neurotypical or change them. They very simply teach children HOW to learn. HOW to process emotions. HOW to regulate. They embrace each child’s neurodiversity, and help them to find their strengths and confidence. About the therapy itself: In-clinic facility. Parent training is mandatory. Protocols for challenges within the home are also addressed, with thorough education on how to address these problems . You will be given opportunities to view your child during their sessions, and also take part from time to time. Assessment and progress reports are vast and thorough. The first meeting I had with Kelsey, I broke down crying in my car afterwards, only because I was so RELIEVED to be able to ask questions uninterrupted, and have those questions be ANSWERED. In full! The “reward” system is based on consequence, with the most negative consequence that our own child experienced being the denial of direct attention, or a delay (not elimination) of a desired activity until expectations had been met. They will not physically restrain your child or isolate them. Even during meltdowns, your child will NEVER be left alone to cope with what they are feeling and experiencing. Your child’s most challenging moments will be met with empathy, grace, and safety at all times. Even if it takes all day. And sometimes it will! The staff will NOT give up on your child. These people love and care about the children, and they protect them fiercely. The facility itself is secure. The staff is attentive and watchful. Anybody who is not supposed to be there is not getting anywhere near those kids, and the staff IS paying attention. Your child has elopement tendencies? Staff is prepared for it. Your child will NOT be able to evade the facility. Kiddo gets violent? The staff has crash pads and team protocols in place to keep your child and everyone else safe. Child destroys property? They might. But the staff is ready. And in time, and with a commitment from guardians to implement the strategies that they learn during parent training, those behaviors will dissipate, or disappear all together. Our child’s destructive tendencies today are non-existent. The staff accomplishes all of this without aggression, without isolation, and without shaming the child. All of this being said, services only work as well as the parental commitment to ensure attendance of the child, and the implementation of learned strategies at home. Extenuating circumstances happen. We had many of them. Our experience was that communicating our circumstances fully and honestly ensured that Pennyfarthing never left our side, even though they would have been fully justified in terminating services at times. To Amy, Kelsey, Nathan, and the entire team at Pennyfarthing, please do not stop what you are doing. You have no idea how many lives you heal and change for the better, just by being the most kind and selfless human beings in existence. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I am so proud of all of you.

Wouldn’t give me a chance because they assumed I would be moving when I am most likely staying here for at least a year for a program I’m in. Just said I had to go back East to get my stuff.

Absolutely love Pennyfarthing! My child with autism attended for about a year and thru that time she grew so much. We went from having regular meltdown, refusals, aggressive behaviors to gradually less and less. Everyone there is wonderful, my child worked with Riley and Kaley as their main but also other specialist when need. Everyone in there was so kind, patient and understanding from what I witnessed not just with my child but the other children as well. So greatful to this team for their progress with my child and helping them grow and be such a bright, happy, regulated little human. Pennyfarthing team was such a pleasure to work with. Thank you.
