My wife and I had a terrible time attempting to get our son enrolled here. They do not communicate well. If you get a gut feeling not to go with services especially for your non-verbal child do not wait... go to a different provider!
Over-promised and under-delivered. My family had an extremely difficult time with Pierponte getting our son enrolled. It took longer than quoted originally to have him evaluated. After his evaluation we got a call threatening a $300 bill (our son is on Husky) because his ASD diagnosis was not valid. Thank goodness I work in healthcare and had the knowledge to contact Carelon about the situation and get it resolved. The owner was not aware of the different types of diagnosis that medicaid will accept (virtual during COVID and educational for the last year). She admitted to me that she had families that had been denied services and even though she didn't say it likely wrongfully put into further financial burden because they demanded payment. It took significantly longer than quoted to get his evaluation report returned and recommendations for services. It took even LONGER to get him a start date for services. There would be WEEKS which we would call and leave messages and emails without return. On my final phone call with the owner after months of struggling on this process we were informed it was due to the location moving (which they knew about and neglected to tell us) it is a further drive and would have changed our choice of provider. I advised that she get an executive assistant as it seemed like she had too much on her plate. She was disgruntled and does not handle criticism well. I am glad to see there is now a job posting for an executive assistant. I really hope they can help this company turn things around. Needless to say we ended up starting the process all over to get him enrolled into ABA with a different provider. An organization that had an administrator and the difference is night and day. We got him into ABA services within a month with them AND found out the previous evaluation from Pierponte was much lower on the recommended service hours for our son. He is now enrolled full time ABA 40 hours when they recommended 20 hours. I believe it was under quoted by the BCBA at Pierponte due to scheduling concerns and that should NEVER be a factor in clinical recommendations. Again I seriously HOPE for all the other families in our position that this business gets the help it needs so that NO ONE else has an experience like we did.
While I can’t speak for all of the staff, there is one in particular that should NOT be working with the special needs community. After dragging my daughter down the steps of her school bus while employed as her teacher, she should never have been allowed to work with children again, especially those who are non verbal. For her to be employed by a company that advocates for the special needs community is hilariously disturbing. *I don’t know who’s 203 number that is that you tried to contact. I am in NY and my child was a student of the individual I am referring to in my review. Unfortunately the system is broken and the abused are penalized while the abusers roam free to harm other innocent children. I filed a police report and a formal complaint through the justice center. I tried calling you on the phone number you left, but it goes directly to a recording.
They are the best at advocacy for special education.
