As a community member, I've had the pleasure of observing the incredible work done by Programs for Exceptional People (PEP) in Bluffton. This organization is a true gem, offering adults with special needs a variety of engaging programs that not only teach valuable life skills but also promote independence and socialization. One of the standout programs is their gardening initiative. Members come together to cultivate plants, learning about the growing process and teamwork and responsibility along the way. It's heartwarming to see the pride the members take in nurturing their impressive garden. Additionally, PEP offers cooking classes, exercise sessions, ceramics classes, and arts and crafts activities, which the members greatly enjoy. PEP also places a strong emphasis on community involvement. They organize regular field trips and park visits, providing members with opportunities to explore new environments and build meaningful connections. These outings are not only enjoyable but also essential for developing social skills and fostering a sense of belonging. Moreover, the organization teaches sign language, which is instrumental in enhancing communication abilities among members. This focus on effective communication further empowers individuals, allowing them to express themselves confidently and interact more freely with others. Overall, PEP's dedication to promoting independence and enriching the lives of adults with special needs is truly commendable. Their diverse programs not only equip members with essential skills but also create a supportive community where everyone is valued and encouraged to thrive.

I contacted PEP many times and discussed the program with their rep that told me multiple times that they accept my son's CLTC Medicaid waiver. I'm considering building a house in Bluffton so I contacted them recently and they suddenly said they don't don't take my son's waiver. If they never accepted this waiver then why did they tell me they did on multiple occasions??? This was so mean of them. I'm glad I found this out before I started building my house. I know there is a trial period but I am very glad that I found out.

This program is absolutely amazing. I've lived in Beaufort for many years and never knew it existed. Mary Jo is phenomenal working with the clients. As the director of PEP, she makes sure everything's therapeutic and safe. Such an amazing place for adults with special needs.
