What a place! We loved this place, it was better than expected. The visitors center was very informative and the host there a wealth of knowledge. They have scopes to look out across the river from inside. We did the drives and saw tons of Trumpeter Swans and so many different ducks. We felt very blessed to see sage grouse fly along the roadside and many Harriers. Also saw a female elk running along the river bank. A must do if you are a wildlife enthusiast and are in the area.
Rest stop.
This Wildlife Refuge is flat and somewhat empty, but it is very nice to just drive through, enjoying the views. The place is very peaceful, but closer to the evening there are a lot more small animals on the roads.
We've float fished the Green River from Fontenelle Dam down through the refuge. The fishing is incredible. Big trout and lots of them. Loads of fun. The scenery is way cool. Moose, otters, pelicans and one day at lunch, a special view of mama and poppa eagle with an eaglet in the nest. Really neat!
