**Edit:** They charge $500 per session! Beware if you have high deductible insurance! I recently received another bill for a one-time physical therapy session in February 2024. even with insurance, I ended up with a $490 charge for just one hour. How can they justify such a high fee for an hour when all I did was a couple of exercises? There was no actual procedure performed—absolutely nothing. This is outrageous. I also paid a $75 copay for each visit. In total, I will end up paying close to $5,000 for 5-6 sessions of physical therapy, even with insurance. As a new mom, just three months postpartum, I blindly followed my doctor’s referral to address my incontinence from childbirth. This experience has left me with PTSD, making it difficult to trust doctors and hospitals again. Now, I find myself worrying more about bills than focusing on my health. **THIEVES** Sentara has been acquiring many small, independent facilities, including my physician's office. My nurse practitioner referred me to Sentara's physical therapy facility, and I didn’t think twice about it when they called to schedule my appointment. I was vulnerable and in need of help with my health issues. To summarize, I was billed over $2,000 for just four one-hour sessions after insurance. Upon reviewing the costs, I discovered that Sentara charges ten times more than other local facilities. While their charges may be technically accurate, I feel powerless to address them due to their larger negotiating power with insurance companies. There was no way for me to know the charges in advance, leaving me completely blindsided. I ultimately discontinued my care and misleadingly told the physical therapist that my symptoms had resolved because I couldn’t handle the uncertainty of the costs. Now, I am burdened with $2,600 in debt and unresolved postpartum health issues. It's incredibly frustrating that patients like me are the biggest victims in this situation. It seems to be a win-win for both Sentara and the insurance companies, while I have no choice but to pay. This truly highlights the issues within the American healthcare system. I intend to bring this issue to the media and encourage everyone I know to avoid any facilities affiliated with this hospital.
