This is an amazing place and everyone here is so nice and helpful. You can tell that they really care and I always look forward to seeing them. The rooms are so comfortable too and adjustable and there are so many areas to choose from. I just love the aesthetics. The staff here help in any way possible and explain and show you everything you need to know. They also give you privacy and just let you try to relax and I just really feel welcome and cozy here - and as someone whos quiet, shy and usually an anxious mess, from the first visit I was a lot less so. I can easily recommend this place and the people there! 😊

I've had a fantastic experience with the Star Behavioral Health team and my provider Heather Saunders. Everyone I've encountered has been welcoming, engaging, and friendly. I feel that my concerns and needs are heard and acted on appropriately. This is the best experience I've had with behavioral health in the Roanoke metro.

Over the years, I've come to know the staff at Star Behavioral Health to be warm, caring, and informed practitioners/staff. Everyone works really well together to create an atmosphere that encourages self exploration, healing, and learning. I feel very fortunate to count the folks at Star amongst my supporters on my personal journey

I'd like to share my thoughts on my psychiatrist nurse, Stephanie Sylvester-Johnson, and also provide some insights about the practice she's a part of currently. In my past experiences, I've had challenging relationships with psychiatrists and have often felt dismissed by Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (Psych NP's). As someone who has needed psychiatric care for most of my adult life, the idea of one person having such significant authority over my well-being has been intimidating. The fear of unintentionally saying something that might lead to involuntary commitment has caused a great deal of anxiety. Sadly, I've rarely had open and honest communication with these professionals; it often felt like they held all the knowledge and decisions were made without considering my input. Enter Psych NP-C Stephanie Sylvester-Johnson. From the very beginning, she approached our sessions with a genuine interest in my responses. Instead of fishing for the severity of my distress, she listened attentively. Her responses were not marked by logical nods or condescending tones; rather, they were filled with compassion and understanding. We engaged in open dialogues about my past treatments, hospitalizations, medications, and my personal thoughts on each. She never flinched when discussing topics like suicidal ideation or alarming reactions. Stephanie treated me with dignity and actively sought my input on coping strategies for daily life and handling challenges. We explored her treatment recommendations, and she explained the rationale behind them. She offered insights on where I could improve and discussed potential medication adjustments. I've come to trust her completely, and when she asks, "What should we do?" I can genuinely respond with, "You choose; I trust you." This trust in my psychiatric care, coupled with the right medications and the support of my therapist, has been life-changing. While I'm not "cured," and my life isn't perfect, I'm genuinely happy. I'm no longer paralyzed by fear of where my chemically imbalanced brain might lead me because I feel like I have someone truly on my side. If I ever felt unsafe or that my life was in danger, I would confidently reach out to her. Those who've been on this journey know how significant this is, and I owe this transformation to Stephanie Sylvester-Johnson. Regarding the practice itself, it exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is not only patient, friendly, and polite but also highly hospitable. Their collective demeanor creates a relaxing and comfortable environment that contributes positively to the overall experience.

Anyone seeking outstanding assistance with any type of mental health issue, should give Pam a call. She is honestly the most concerned, most helpful and most comfortable person I have ever had the pleasure to know. If you feel like nothing else has helped, please give a call. Unlike most other health care providers, you will be listened to and treated with respect.
