Comprehensive ABA therapy services tailored to your needs
I worked with Abigail (representing Step by Step) as my case manager briefly. The experience was not appropriate or effective. She presents with confidence, but her conduct demonstrated limited professional judgment, poor boundary awareness, and an inability to accept feedback. I clearly stated my preference for a neutral, professional tone and minimal personal commentary. Those expectations were not respected. During a scheduled session, I requested to use the allotted time to research a medical procedure. Abigail imposed an arbitrary time limit, then discouraged continuing the task and suggested ending the call early. This felt controlling and dismissive rather than supportive or collaborative. Throughout the session, she made unsolicited personal remarks and assumptions about motivation, finances, and confidence. She also commented on her own discomfort with the topic, which reflected a lack of professionalism and clinical neutrality. Most concerning, she stated that she felt I had ill intentions. This comment was inappropriate, unfounded, and beyond the scope of professional case management. It undermined trust and crossed a serious boundary. When I raised relationship-related concerns, her responses lacked situational awareness and emotional attunement. I did not feel heard, supported, or taken seriously. After ending services, I learned that others have raised similar concerns regarding a controlling communication style, difficulty accepting feedback, and negative experiences working with her. This reinforced my decision to discontinue care. While Abigail appears confident and polished, presentation outweighed substance in practice. She requires more training, stronger supervision, and significantly more experience before working independently with clients. She was not an appropriate fit for me.
SxS is a wonderful organization with many caring professionals and a unique mix of community and independent living. I experienced life there as both a resident and later through their outreach services. I had my own one-bedroom apartment as a resident, and attended weekly community dinners through the program, along with other rotating groups. This enabled me to build social and life skills such as cooking. Two of my favorite groups were the music/drumming group, and the poetry group. My case managers consistently provided individualized care and helped me transition from supported living to independent living as an adult diagnosed with multiple mental health disorders. The team always responded to my needs with care and respect, treating me as more than an illness, but as a person, which greatly improved my self-worth and bolstered my healthy self-image. 5 stars to all the staff, including the administrative staff, who were always kind and supportive. Thank you SxS!
