Stern Center for Language and Learning

The Stern Center was instrumental in helping my family diagnose learning issues that plagued my son in elementary school. We relied on Stern to help identify and build an effective strategies that could be executed in our school system and later in college. Today, that son has achieved great success in his career and community and we are grateful that the role Stern Center played in getting him started.

I was looking for some cognitive impairment tests for myself. It's nonprofit for me and profit for them, because they told me my BCBS insurance coverage would not cover the cost of the tests. They told me the test would cost me between $3,000 to $4,000 out of pocket!

This is not a neurodiversity-positive organization. I would not recommend any of their services.

The Stern Center is truly a gift to children and adults struggling with social cognition, anxiety, autism and many other challenges. My son has received invaluable connection, understanding, and compassion while working with the Stern Center and Julie Erdelyi in particular. So many other professionals assumed they understood his actions or intent and would miss the mark causing so much damage to his self-esteem. He would tell you that Julie just gets him. He knows she can help him figure things out so he doesn’t feel so stressed or keep making the same mistakes. He periodically asks for sessions to address challenges he is confident can be untangled, explained, with strategies to overcome. His transition to college was fluid because of the preparation and skills taught for executive function, social dynamics, and emotional regulation. When senior year in college added crushing stress, he knew where to turn and successfully graduated with a double major, and minor with intact self-esteem and pride that he knew his needs and had resources that were tried and true. I love the phone calls, “mom, I think I need a session with Julie to figure something out.” The Stern center truly understands him as a unique person and can explain challenges in a way that he can understand with strategies that are within his reach to implement. From elementary school through to life as a young adult, I could not ask for a better resource than the Stern Center to help my son continue to grow and learn how to be his best self.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have found the Stern Center for Language and Learning for my dyslexic, 10-year old son. He has been working with the Stern Center since 2018 and has come a long way over these past two years. I attribute his success to the exemplary instruction he has been given. The staff at Stern Center are absolutely wonderful and my son is always happy to have his instructional sessions. He has had instruction in-person as well on-line and has had success with both platforms. The educators at Stern Center are top-notch and professional! I will be forever grateful for this amazing center!

Need Help? The Stern Center is here for you. Their faculty have made a huge difference in the lives and learning of both of our daughters. Their expertise in assessing students strengths, and areas that need work, brings a laser-like focus to the collaborative work to be done between the faculty, the student, and the family for successful learning outcomes. One of the things I most appreciate is the faculty’s expertise around the learning process and their skill in meeting a child where they are and expertly moving them forward. We no longer hear, “I can’t”. Now learning challenges are met with “I can, I can figure this out”. Our daughters are more confident, feel better about themselves as learners, and are much more successful in school. These are the kinds of outcomes Stern Center delivers. I took an online course through the Stern Center that focused on the Orton Gillingham Approach. This course was not only led by amazing instructors who were there to support me every step of the way, but it was also a life-changing course for me. It helped me understand my students more and strategies I can use to support their individual needs. It also helped me make connections within the English language that explain why English is so complex!
