My daughter was taken there recently. She has had a decently long history of being in and out of that place and one other. The fact that they are did not let me know they were going to discharge her early. I received a phone call on the day of. The following Friday had been discussed. They think a family meeting is the answer. I declined because of past experiences there and it ended up being a shouting match between my daughter and I. Instead of trying to help her they did nothing. No medication review. No one sat down with us like they used to do. The doctor actually used to speak to us directly instead of nothing. They expect you to pay 2000 or more dollars for literally nothing. They have been better on the past more involved. My daughter has been in and out of that place for 5 years on and off. In the past 5 years you can see that the place has degraded quite a bit. If I coukd take her to another place I would but Childrens is usually full. Also St E's emergency room in no better. A nurse lied to my face and said that my daughter was ot admitted. If your child is taken to St E. to be evaluated make sure you speak directly to the doctor not the nurses they will lie to your face. This last experience was a was rather horrible. You can see how the service has dropped on the last 5 years. I hope my daughter will not hsve to end up on that place again but that is all there is. She needed help and didny receive the level of the care that I was hoping for. If they are signed worried about helping who is there they should also take feedback more serously from the people who have been living it for the last 5 years.

My daughter was a voluntary admit- though I don’t think that stands for much to be honest. I was told if I tried to discharge her before 72 hours they could just make her status involuntary. I have many concerns from her 4 day stay and I addressed these concerns with the facility already. Nothing changes if nothing changes. 1. My daughter was injured in the gym (accidents happen, I’m not mad) however she was not provided with care for the injury. I was never notified by anyone other than my daughter when I talked to her , of the injury in which she continued to express she believed her bone was broke. 2. I received a call to consent to a medication (tums) for heartburn, to find out later my daughter didn’t have heartburn and wasn’t given tums, my daughter stated they kept getting her and another individual mixed up- thankfully it was only tums bc I believe I consented for someone else’s kid. I was also told the Dr called us about ordering an X-ray (more than 48 hours after injury) but this was false, no one called and no message was left if we in fact missed a call (we confirmed no calls were missed- the facility failed to communicate). 3. The discharge process really needs work and a lot of education for staff. The staff are not at all versed in insurance and even after asking if they made sure who they were referring us to for therapy was in network with insurance they believed simply if a provider takes Anthem that mean all plans are covered , and that’s not even close to accurate. Someone like myself who is extremely well versed in insurance has the knowledge to ask questions while others are led blindly. Part of the discharge process was also calling and making appointments on our behalf (which give us no say in time and day availability), we had no clue who the therapist was just the company they worked for and it wasn’t until the day of therapy , during our session that we confirmed the therapist did not take our insurance. This leaves us with a greater financial burden to cover the cost where insurance is not going to pay along with added stress of finding a therapist and trying to get appointments in a timely manner (which was the biggest part of the facility insisting we allow them to do the leg work). 4.They performed an X-ray at discharge which prolonged the discharged and we were told we would get a call with results the next day, again no one called. Two days after discharge we got a call back after contacting the patient advocate , and I addressed all of these concern. Same routine, just apologies but what else could be done? What set me off was it was during this call that I got their X-ray results and was told the X-ray was fine and there was no injury. I bet this was going to be what they told me even though I knew when I looked at her injury her finger was broken… which is exactly why we went straight to orthocincy after discharge, had an independent X-ray and confirmed a fracture , and my daughter is in a full cast… imagine had my daughter not discharged they wouldn’t have given her the care she needed for the fracture based on whatever independent company they used for the X-ray. Knowing all I know now, I never would have voluntarily admitted my child here and would have stuck to my guns with St E transporting to children’s . The change needed here is a lot of education and process changes for referrals and discharge and personnel changes as it’s clear based on being told my daughter never reported her injury even though I asked the nurse about it after my daughter told me and the nurse acknowledged knowing ….,it seems like no one there really seemed to care enough to provide the care deserved.

All the staff are rude. They don't listen to the patient. They belittle you in front of you then act like they didn't do anything

As a Northern Kentuckian it is imperative that we have a quality facility like Sun Behavioral here locally. It’s so refreshing to see representation at all of our local events promoting healthy opinions on mental health and seeking treatment. I have ran into one of their Employees Matt at several local and school based community events, and I’m always impressed.

My stay here was involuntary, but necessary. If they had done the bare minimum they'd be getting 1 star, however theyre getting 2. Because they had like 3 or 4 genuinely caring "tech" staff members that made the experience therapeutic. This.. did not make up for it feeling like a prison. None of the furniture is comfortable, we got yelled at for having fun playing cards by some staff, and at night we didnt even get to go down for dinner. It was brought to us cold and sad. Lunch however, on weekdays atleast, was amazing. They had a salad bar, which was quite impressive, and usually 2 menu items and a decent drink selection. I was impressed by this. I was not however impressed by the weekends. No therapy. Rec if youre lucky (most likely not). Youre just.. there. With my group of patients it was great because most of us were just doing puzzles and such.. but I can easily see it being terrible. Also. If your 72 touches a weekend at all (i.e. ends friday night like mine) they will not release you on the weekend. I would also like to say their PHP and IOP programs SUCK, and if they try to suggest northkey DONT GO. OneQuest Health in covington WILL save you. Their PHP and IOP program is a godsend with their group Therapists Bret and Autumn and they will assign you an individual therapist and med manager. If you can go anywhere go there.

Not a patient myself, but a significant other of one. She has had nothing but good things to say about the staff on the recovery side they did a great job helping her choose her options continuing her treatment and to make the right choice for her. My experience visiting has been good as well, Nick in particular was very kind and willing to go the extra mile to keep me and other family informed on the next steps after leaving the program. Would recommend this place for anyone looking to make a change in their life.

My experience at SUN Behavioral played a really important role in my mental health and substance use recovery. From the start, I felt supported and not judged, which made a big difference for me. The staff genuinely cared and took the time to listen, which helped me feel safe opening up and actually doing the work. The program helped me better understand myself, my mental health, and the patterns tied to my substance use. I gained tools that I still use today and left feeling more stable, clear-headed, and confident in my recovery. I’m truly grateful for my time at SUN Behavioral and the support I received there. It helped me get back on track and reminded me that recovery is possible. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for help with mental health and substance use.
