Comprehensive ABA therapy services tailored to your needs
My son has been working with The Hero Clinic and the ladies of The Hero Clinic since before they became The Hero Clinic. There isn’t enough positive things I could ever say to bring those ladies justice. I call, they help work thru our issues, I need another service added, they get us added. If you ever need help, need services, and have questions they are who to contact.
I can't say enough positive things about The Hero Clinic. From our initial visit to ongoing therapy services, we've always felt love from the staff. I highly recommend it.
I am extremely disappointed with the unethical billing practices and withholding of services I experienced at The "HERO" Clinic. I paid a $300 deposit on October 1, 2025 to secure an appointment for my daughter's autism assessment as this facility cannot accept insurance and The Thompson Center is a 2 year wait. It was at this time that the assessment process was explained to me and sounded very thorough- I believed she was in good hands. She was seen on October 17th after I had filled 3-4 hours worth of multiple choice forms. After the appointment, Dr Wheeler and his assistant discussed payment plans to finish paying off the $950 remaining balance, or $1,200 if we opted for additional services. I was concerned about the day of the week the additional services were offered and they said an alternate day may be available, but someone would reach out regarding this issue to help us make this decision. Although I did not agree with the final diagnosis of Anxiety, as it did not explain several symptoms my daughter experiences, I was happy that they were kind and willing to work with us financially and with group therapy for my daughter. After the appointment, I received an email with an incorrect invoice of $1,250 although I had paid $300 of that total nearly 3 weeks prior. I was also "persuaded" to sign up for additional services via multiple emails and attempting to lead me to sign a contract. I inquired once again about an alternate day that would work for my family, as the additional services would not work otherwise, as well as stating that the invoice I had received being incorrect. Within 2 days of the email I sent, the clinic took it upon themselves to charge the card I used on October 1st for $300, for the remaining balance of $950. No one told me they were going to charge my card, nor did they tell me after. They revoked their "payment plan" option also. There was no authorization on my end for this charge on my card and I had zero warning that the charge was going to occur. Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) and Regulation E (12 CFR SS 1005), a business CANNOT charge your debit card without your explicit authorization for that transaction, a clear preauthorization agreement (providing you with a copy of that agreement), notifying you of the charge in the amount may differ or if you dispute the invoice. Under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act (RSMo SS 407.020), it is unlawful for a business to engage in: Deception, fraud, false promise, misrepresentation, unfair practice, or omission of material facts. Because I felt this charge was FRAUDULENT, I disputed the charge on my card and called the police November 4th. The clinic retaliated by withholding my daughter's diagnosis which was a service promised to me and I had paid for involuntarily at this point, which is Coercive business practice as they are demonstrating bad faith withholding of paid-for services. Refer to screenshot attached. My husband and I are both engineers and had the money ready- paying was never the issue. The issue is the way The HERO Clinic handled it. I have never had any company withdraw money from my bank account without notifying me or getting my authorization for a specific charge. Their actions felt deceptive and completely lacking in transparency, especially for a medical clinic that serves vulnerable children. What makes this worse is that they withheld my daughter's diagnostic results until I canceled my bank dispute, despite the fact that I had already paid for the assessment. Based on my experience, that raises serious concerns about their integrity and their compliance with basic consumer protection standards. I would strongly caution other parents to be very careful about giving this clinic access to their payment information and to document EVERYTHING.
