Finding the right therapist to help your a child who has severe social anxiety which leads to the inability to be able to go to school (school refusal) is very difficult. Thriving Minds has a program that specializes in school refusal. We spent 9 months with 2 other therapist who just weren't making much progress before we found Thriving Minds. Dr. Polini is excellent. She is really helping my child learn to work through situations that cause her anxiety instead of totally avoiding them. Her school attendance and ability to sit in classes has improved significantly compared to last year. Thriving minds has proven tools: teaches the child to question automatic negative thoughts, look at the evidence, change the perspective, challenge the child to do hard things so they gain confidence in their abilities. I highly recommend Thriving Minds for a child with severe social anxiety and school refusal/avoidance.

Thriving Minds provides excellent treatment using evidence based practices for therapeutic services for children. Dr. Youngdahl is a warm, compassionate, caring, and extremely competent psychologist who specializes in many areas including psychological assessment, selective mutism and school refusal. The office environment is newly remodeled and is warm and welcoming!
We switched to Thriving Minds from another provider after I felt our child wasn't getting actual help rather sitting in a room just talking. Within 2 months, my child has learned so much and has techniques to help when outside the office. The communication with parents is phenomenal while still allowing my child privacy and autonomy as a young adolescent. We are grateful to have found Caroline and Thriving Minds.
