Love it when people give one star ratings but don't explain why... just kidding, I don't like it at all! [As of 7/19/21, the UIHC's Behavioral Health Clinic only has two one-star ratings and one two-star.] Oh well, I guess on the bright side it means that I have the opportunity to write a smashing review that people may actually put some stock in. Get cozy. My experience with the UIHC's Behavioral Health Clinic has been: that I was a part of their Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) group for several months and I've been seeing one of their therapists for three years. Throughout the DBT sessions, I also interacted with many of their therapists/social workers. The verdict? They're wonderful. The best that I've seen. Every single worker I've encountered has been kind, deliberate, present, and also very smart (but not snobby about it). The DBT group gave me simple and highly effective tools for how to deal with my PTSD and anger issues. I would be a mess without their help, but my husband would be much worse off! My personal therapist is extremely attentive, thoughtful, compassionate, and assertive––but without the ego. Meeting with her over the past few years has changed and shaped my outlook on life to the point where I'm no longer constantly self-obsessed, emotionally volatile, and wallowing in depression. Because of the [hard] work that she's been helping me do, I feel more empowered to live well. Five stars for Rachel Leach! In conclusion, I would say that overall, my mental health and behavior associated with it has improved drastically since I've been involved with the BHC. I unreservedly recommend their services to anyone who seems interested in the kind of help they offer. Last thing––I wanted to address why I think their ratings are so low here on Google. First of all, no reviews are attached to those ratings, which says to me that the people behind those stars may be young, impulsive, and/or internet trolls. However, if they did have a negative experience with the BHC, I imagine it was because of one of two things: 1) They were unwilling or unable to participate in the work they were given to do, and also unwilling or unable to accept their responsibility in that situation, or 2) It took many months before they were accepted into a program or able to be seen by a therapist. The first reason is just going to happen from time to time, no matter where. It's a shame, but it's life. You can't help people that won't accept help. The second reason is very real! It took me six months before I was accepted into their system and able to see a therapist. I don't know for sure, but it would definitely seem that their department in the UIHC is sorely under-staffed, and I assume under-funded. A real drag, but regardless, half-a-year was well worth the wait for me. I hope you've enjoyed my review and choose the UIHC's Behavioral Health Clinic for all of your mental health needs! And just in case you were wondering––they didn't pay me to say all of this, I'm just a genuine fan and enjoy writing about interesting things. Speaking of which––if you like my writing style, you might also enjoy my blog! carlabaudrons .art/blog
