Floortime (DIR Model)

Child-led, play-based therapy that focuses on social, emotional, and developmental growth through relationships.

DIR/Floortime is a developmental approach designed to help children with autism and other developmental challenges build meaningful connections and communication skills. Therapists and parents join the child’s play to follow their lead, using everyday moments to promote engagement and learning. The model emphasizes three core principles:

  • Developmental: Meeting the child at their current developmental level to build new skills.
  • Individual Differences: Adapting therapy to each child’s sensory and emotional profile.
  • Relationship-Based: Using strong, supportive relationships to encourage growth.
