We came from out of state and went through several OTs with my daughter (ASD) who seemed to just not know what to do with her. Children's Colorado has been so knowledgeable and comforting. They really care about kids and continue to help guide you in the next steps of care.
Our daughter is a Competitive Football (Soccer) player, who had a moderate-term injury that she needed to recover from. Children's Hospital Therapy Care, Physical Therapists (PTs) have a lot of patience and are very good at listening to the patient, the parent(s), and the patient's Doctor regarding the issues which need to be evaluated and treated. The PTs are extremely thorough with their evaluation, working with the patient, and helping them and the parent(s) to understand what treatments are being performed at the clinic, and what the patient needs to do at home to continue their recovery. Our family's experience has been that working with these very professional Physical Therapists has made a huge difference in our daughter's recovery from her injury, and they have also provided ongoing exercises to help with preventing and/or limiting the impact and duration of potential future injuries. As a result of the PTs working with our daughter over the long-term, she was very determined to return to playing Football as soon as the PT indicated that her body was ready to handle the physical stresses that it would put on her previous injury and her body as a whole. During her recovery from injury, our daughter dedicated herself to performing the various exercises daily that the PT assigned, to ensure that her recovery proceeded as quickly as possible. After her recovery, she was given the go ahead to return to playing at 100% of her pre-injury ability. Our daughter continues to do her exercises daily, so that she can reduce the likelihood of becoming injured again, and if she does sustain another injury, our experience has been that the severity and duration of that injury is greatly reduced. Performing her exercises daily also gives her the confidence that she can focus on how she's playing in the moment, and that she doesn't need to worry about becoming injured again.
The therapist is great. She understands our daughter’s needs and works with her on them. She assigns appropriate homework.
I've been thrilled with my son's Occupational Therapy treatment since we started with weekly sessions earlier this year. His therapist Katie has been amazing. She has gotten my son to do things that normally he would be reluctant to try, much less succeed in doing. After each and every session I walk away slightly stunned at the level of effort she gets out of him. He sincerely loved going to each one of his treatments. Most importantly, I've seen a marked improvement in his motor planning and emotional regulation since starting with Kathleen. The 4-day camp my son attended last week was exactly what I've been trying to find for him the past few summers. He was able to engage with kids with similar challenges and see that he isn't alone in his struggles. He finished the week with a few new friends as well as improved confidence in his ability to regulate his emotions. I'm looking forward to his weekly peer group sessions that start mid-July!
The audiology department is super wonderful. We had a really good experience here getting a hearing examination. Mackenzie is very wonderful to work with. Thanks!
