My daughter has been attending Highlights Healthcare since August of 2024 and the progress she’s made is truly incredible. I’ve never seen her grow and develop the way she has since starting here. The staff is nothing short of amazing - so patient, kind, and genuinely invested in her success. She absolutely loves going every day and lights up when she sees the therapists. It gives me such peace of mind knowing she’s in a safe, supportive, and caring environment. I’m beyond grateful for the team at Highlights! they’ve made a life-changing difference for our family.
Keoki graduated ABA therapy yesterday from Highlights Healthcare in Advance, NC! This journey was a long one and I was unsure about ABA therapy at first, but I am so glad we did it and it has been a real blessing for my family. It has helped Keoki so much. At first Keoki was really struggling and I knew he needed help, but couldn’t find anyone to help us. I was in tears lots of days not knowing where to turn or how to even get help or where to start. Every day was a struggle. Keoki use to not know how to control his anger, he would self harm himself when he would get upset, he was uncontrollable, he would excessively drool every day all day and his shirts would be soaked in the front, he was very aggressive towards everyone Expecially his sister and other kids, He would be standing there one minute and then just shove or hit sometime or someone out of the blue, he was very very textural that likes textures, and he would do lots more things that I can’t think of at the moment from the top of my head. Finally someone mentioned I could get him evaluated for autusm at Highlights since all those things were symptoms of autism and I thought well, mine as well, what do we have to lose. Keoki got evaluated and he was showing he was slightly on the spectrum. Autusm is a number 8 and he was a number 7. So because he was on the spectrum Medicaid covered it and he could get the therapy. They told me because of his past he might not be autistic, and just need the therapy to work out the things he was doing, however the things he was doing was signs of autism and can help him either way. They told me that they recommend ABA therapy for regular kids and any children honestly. Keoki had done ABA therapy from 10am to 4pm (6 hours) straight Monday through Friday and now he no longer does any of those things. We reevaluated him and now he’s not even on the spectrum for autusm at all. Agiain, autusm is a number 8, but now he is a number 4. So he’s not even close to the spectrum of autusm. He no longer does the things he was doing. He is still very textrual, but it has gotten less. Now I think he is just ADHD and is a slight textual kid that likes textures. He is controllable now and plays so well with other kids and his sister. I’m telling you, again, this was a long Jorney, however Keoki has came such a long way and came so far I am just so amazed, thankful, and happy. I am so proud of him.
