How Long Does ABA Therapy Take?

The length of ABA therapy varies based on your child’s unique needs, goals, and the intensity of their treatment plan. Typically, ABA therapy can range from a few hours per week to 40 hours per week, depending on the severity of the child’s behavior and their specific developmental goals.

  1. Intensive Therapy – For children with more complex needs, ABA therapy may be provided up to 40 hours per week. This intensive therapy is usually recommended for younger children or those who need significant behavior intervention.

  2. Less Intensive Therapy – For children with milder needs, therapy may be scheduled for fewer hours, typically around 10–20 hours per week. The goal is to build skills progressively over time.

  3. Duration of Therapy – ABA therapy is typically a long-term process. Many children receive therapy for several months or years to achieve meaningful, lasting progress. However, therapy duration can be adjusted based on your child’s progress and goals.
